DID YOU KNOW?

On the IT Upswing

Outsourcing and Managed Services have become established concepts in the entire German-speaking region by now. But though many commercial offerings are becoming more and more cloud-like, skepticism towards Cloud Computing remains. The recent 'User Survey Outsourcing, Cloud & Managed Services 2011' carried out by Pierre Audoin Consultants (PAC) confirms just that. For this telephone study, the market-research company questioned some 300 executives in IT software application companies in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on current core investment areas as well as trends in IT expenditures and sourcing. According to the findings, outsourcing service providers in this region still have a hard time selling their services – the lion’s share of IT budgets is spent on in-house personnel and software and hardware products. More than 40% of the executives stated that no outsourcing-strategy at all is being pursued. With another 45%, the share of outsourcing and managed services is below 25% of IT expenditure. But at least 40% of the companies already use outsourcing-services for application management; about 30% use computer center services and hosting. With big businesses, the percentage of outsourcing-services is even higher. Over 60% of businesses with more than 10,000 employees use external data center services; for application support the percentage actually is over 80%.

Although the institutions will be independant, Google is the financial backer; the budget for the first three years is 4,5 million Euros.
